Structural Strengthening - Rehabilitation - NDT Concrete Test
The 70% of buildings in Greece have been built without following any seismic design regulations or according to older regulations, inadequate for the current requirements. Besides, a large percentage of buildings, especially in city center areas, almost exceed the life span of concrete structures. We can therefore deduce that the seismic adequacy of a large number of buildings is questioned.
The answer lies in the evaluation of seismic adequacy of existing buildings according to the specifications of Eurocodes and the Greek Structural Interventions Code (KAN.EPE.). The seismic adequacy evaluation consists of:
- Seismic assessment of the current structural condition.
- Non-destructive concrete testing.
- Data analysis with specialized software and analysis results.
- Detailed report to the owner. Issuance of Certificate of Seismic Adequacy or recommendation for structural interventions.
If the seismic stability of the structure is found to be deficient and the owner wants to proceed with interventions, we propose Structural Strengthening Solutions, which improve building safety.
Our company’s experienced and highly-qualified civil engineers undertake the structural capacity tests and structural adequacy analysis required for the pre- or post-earthquake assessment and then they develop the Structural Intervention Design.
Moreover, by having considerable experience in building restoration after the 1995 Kozani-Grevena earthquake, we implement Structural Strengthening and damage Repair from earthquake or other cause (fire, corrosion, settlement, etc.).
Specifically, we undertake:
a) Concrete capacity testing (non-destructive and destructive):
- Concrete strength testing with Schmidt Hammer.
- Rebar detection. (GPR Scanning)
- Concrete cover quality and thickness measurement.
- Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity testing for the identification of voids, cracks, etc.
- Measuring carbonation depth.
- Nail pull-out test.
- Core Drilling.
- Fire damage evaluation.
b) Seismic Adequacy Evaluation.
c) Structural Intervention Design.
d) Structural Strengthening and Repair construction:
- Shotcrete (gunite).
- Concrete Jacketing.
- Epoxy and Concrete Grouting.
- Concrete Strengthening with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites (FRPs).
- Strengthening with Steel Bracing.
- Reinforcement Corrosion Protection.
- Concrete Sawing / Breaking / Removal.
- Masonry building Restoration.
